Ragdoll Cats Breed Guide (UK)

Appearance and Temperament

Ragdolls are often cited as the world’s most popular cat breed, and it’s easy to see why—they are the full package 🐾

They are exceptionally beautiful with huge blue eyes, luscious coats, and soft paws, they are also one of the largest domestic cat breeds, making them quite the head-turner.

Why are they called "Ragdolls"?

The name originates from their unique trait of becoming floppy and relaxed when picked up, just like a ragdoll.

These intelligent animals are famous for being docile, sociable, and super affectionate. We do select our Queens and Sires based on Health, Temperament and Type - in this exact order, prioritising Health for all our  animals. All our breeding animals are genetically tested and copies of the tests are available on request.

Ragdoll Temperament: The Perfect Family Pet

Ragdoll is a wonderful  breed that makes a great pet. They fit incredibly well into family life and get along famously with other pets.

They are also great with neurodivergent children and we have families reporting incredible positive behavior changes in their children after adopting kittens from us.

Ragdoll will need a lot of attention, especially a young kitten - they thrive on human interaction. They will, for sure, follow you from room to room and get involved in everything you do!

And yes, they can be ‘needy’ but in return you will have the most loyal and affectionate pet.

If you're ready to welcome this level of companionship into your home, check our Kittens for Sale page to see available and upcoming  litters.

Essential Care and Grooming

While Ragdolls are relatively low-maintenance for a long-haired breed, they do require:

Regular Brushing: To prevent matting and reduce shedding in their silky fur.

Interactive Play: Their playful nature means they need engagement and toys for their mental well-being.

Attention: They are not "solitary" cats and love being part of the household heart.

Indoor breed: Ragdoll is an indoor only breed - they stand no chance in the outdoor cat life due to their very docile and trusting nature. They are suitable for flats or houses. Ragdoll do, of course, enjoy outdoors but only if you have a secure balcony or a secure garden.

Is a Ragdoll Right for You?

Ragdolls are the perfect blend of looks and affectionate personality.  Not every kitten is the same, but they tend to be gentle-natured and affectionate making them a joy to be around.
